About this book
In his *Institutes*, the Reformer John Calvin concisely set out virtually the entire message of the Reformation. This classic work, published in 1536, was intended to provide instruction in the Christian faith to ordinary people. It appeared in its final form in 1559. Calvin had continually refined and expanded the book. *Learning from Calvin* closely follows the content of the *Institutes*. It constantly places the topics covered against the backdrop of theological and historical developments within the Reformation. In this way, it provides a gateway to reading and understanding a standard work of Reformed Protestantism.
Prof. Dr W. van t Spijker (1926) is Professor Emeritus of Church History and Canon Law at the Theological University of Apeldoorn.
