About this book
GROT can be interpreted as something unpleasant, filthy or of poor quality. Jonny Kaye’s debut monograph of the same name offers a unique insight into the British kink and fetish scene. Between 2020 and 2023, he collected more than 12,000 analogue photographs to document this closed community.
Jonny’s work often lingers in your mind for a while… His photographs exude eroticism, rawness and intensity. His characteristic analogue tactility and depth are combined with an editorial aesthetic, resulting in a unique visual experience. GROT provides a platform for under-represented sexualities, desires and practices. It aims to encompass sexualities and identities that have long been labelled ‘perverse’. As such, it can be seen as a counter-archive that taps into alternative forms of knowledge and seeks to spark a discussion about public understanding of sexuality and relationships.
