About this book
This famous text by Sengtsan, the Hsin Hsin Ming, translated here as *Original Mind*, is one of the earliest known Chan (Zen) texts, but as one reads it, it becomes clear that the text has also been influenced by Buddhism and Taoism. Little is known about Sengtsan himself, apart from the fact that he lived in the 6th century and was the third Chinese Zen patriarch. He died in the year 606. Various English versions of the text have been used for this translation.
